Pencil, Liquid, Gel and Cake are the four basic types of eyeliners. By checking out their features, you can choose the one for you.
1. Pencil Eyeliner
Are you a beginner? Or is it that your hands are steady? Then Pencil eyeliner is definitely the right type for you. It is one of the easiest eyeliner type to apply. You can control it easily than other types. You don’t need any application tool to use it. You can make the best smokey eyes by using pencil eyeliners. Though you have to sharpen it, but you can make it creamy and easier to apply by using your fingertip to adjust the sharp end. You can use the pencil eyeliner on both the upper and lower lash lines.
There are different types of Pencil eyeliners. Choose the one by knowing their usage method and specialty.
Powder-based eyeliners have a hard tip and makes it easier to draw a natural looking line. As they are easy to handle, beginners are suggested to use these types.
Wax-based pencil eyeliners have a softer tip which makes the line smoothly. These types are suggested for those who are quite expert to draw lines using pencil eyeliners. But this one smudges fast and sometimes the lines are not clean.

2. Liquid Eyeliner
Do you have a steady hand? Are you expert in using pencil eyeliners? Then you can go for the liquid ones. Liquid eyeliners can give you a clean, defined and a sharp line. If you get used to it, you will be able to apply it quickly and make the line as you wish. Liquid eyeliners needs a brush to apply the line. It usually comes in a bottle with the brush.
Liquid Eyeliners come in two forms depending on the applicator:
Brush applicator based liquid eyeliners comes in a bottle with the brush with it. You have to be patient if you want to make the line perfect using the brush. It dries quickly. Most of them are water resistant.

Felt or Pen based liquid eyeliners are easier to use than the ones with a brush. They dry faster than the brush liquid liners. You can make the thinnest line using it which will make it look more natural and beautiful.
3. Gel or Cream Eyeliner
Gel or Cream eyeliners are not as wet as liquid eyeliners. You can control the thickness once you get used to it. It doesn’t smudge and most of them are waterproof. Sometimes you will need an eye makeup remover to wash it off. It is preferable if you want it to stay long. You also need an extra brush to use it. And the brush has to be cleaned so that it doesn’t get sticky with the used gel. Other than the problem with the brush, it is a preferable one for making defined and matte line.
4. Cake Eyeliner
Cake eyeliners are preferred for professionals. It can create the cleanest and accurate line once you get used to it. You can also blend it before it dries. They come as compact eyeshadows. You have to use a wet eyeliner brush to apply it. This one can create smokey eyes. And it also stays for a long time.
