But make sure that the person for whom you are making this cake; they should be a real fan of these minions otherwise all of your hard will go in vain. When you have decided to make a minion cake, you will need the required ingredients and the tools to make this cake.
You can try different designs to make minion cakes and you will find all the recipes on the internet. But if it is your first time, it would be better to start with something simple. If you want to make a 3d minion, you will need minimum 5 layers of cake to bring on the height. But if you want to keep it simple, you can do it with one layer rectangular shaped cake.
To make the most easy and simple design of a minion cake, you are going to need a box of Betty Crocker SuperMoist butter recipe yellow cake mix, water, butter, eggs, golden yellow food color, 1 container Betty Crocker whipped cream frosting, 1 tube Betty Crocker blue decorating icing, 7 pieces black string licorice and 3 milk chocolate candy drops r pieces.
You are also going to need 1 chocolate-covered peppermint patty, 5 pieces chewy chocolate candies, 1 tsp corn syrup, 1 oz silver decorating sugar and Betty Crocker Easy Flow black decorating icing. At first you have to bake the cake by following the package instructions. Let it cool and then line a large baking sheet with wax paper to place the cake on top. Now trim of the square edges to create an oval shape. You have to trim about ½ inch of one of the short ends of the cake to make it flat and this part will be the bottom of the cake.
Place ¾ of the container of whipped frosting into a bowl and stir in the yellow food coloring. Stir the mixture until you get the desired yellow color of the body of a minion. Next, you have to frost the cake with a thin layer of frosting. Refrigerate for 30 minutes and then frost the cake again for a final coat. Refrigerate for 15 more minutes and then use an offset spatula to make an upward curving line in the icing about 4 inches from the bottom of the cake. Place the blue Betty Crocker decorating icing in a small bowl and still until it becomes smooth.
Microwave the icing for 10 seconds if it is not soft enough. Frost the bottom of the cake with the blue icing up to the line. Frost the chocolate covered patty with a thick layer of the whipped cream frosting to make the minion’s eye. Place a chocolate drop in pointed-end-down into the frosting and press together the five chewy chocolate candies so that you can roll the chocolate between your palms into a rope. Wrap the rope around a plastic tumbler with a 3 ¼ inch rim.
Secure the ends by pressing them together and then lift the tumbler away from the ring. Use a pastry brush to coat it with corn syrup. Dip the chocolate ring into a dish filled with silver sugar. Take out the cake from the refrigerator and then remove it from the wax paper o place it on a cake board. Now place everything starting with the eye on the top center of the cake, the silver ring around the eye and two chocolate drops in the blue portion for buttons.
Add the smile by laying a 4 inch piece of licorice onto the cake and then a few inches below the eye. Add the hair by cutting two licorice into 3 inch pieces and insert them into the top of the cake. Outline the bottom edges of the cake by adding more licorice laces and use on to outline the pants. Draw two lines of icing about 2 inches apart on either side of the silver eye piece and then fill in the lines with more icing. Use a small knife to smooth it.
