Christmas tree cookie, a great dessert for the holiday when you are having company. These cookies will be in the shape of Christmas tree with any design you want to make on them. You can make them with your kids or friends. If you are planning to give some inexpensive homemade gifts to your friends, nothing can beat these adorable Christmas tree cookies wrapped in a small gift box or packet.
So let’s get to know a really easy recipe to make some Christmas tree cookies. Making the cookies is the same as you make cookies in general; just you will need a Christmas tree cookie cutter to get the required shape. The next thing you will do is apply the required frosting, sprinkles or any design you want to make on these cookies.
To make these visually appealing cooking, you are going to need 2 cups flour, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp baking powder, 1 stick plus 2 tbsp butter, 1 cup caster sugar, 1 egg plus 1 egg yolk and 1 tsp vanilla extract. This amount will let you make 4 dozen of cookies if you are using a tiny cookie cutter. For the decoration you will need 2 cups butter, 3 cups confectioner’s sugar, 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk, 2 large egg whites, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp vanilla extract and green food coloring.
You can also add nonpareils, sprinkles or round chocolate candies for decorating. Start with bringing the butter and eggs in room temperature. Whisk the flour, salt and baking soda in a bowl. Beat the butter and make it smooth followed by adding sugar and beating the mixture for 2 minutes. Beat in the egg and egg yolk and then add the vanilla followed by beating for 2 more minutes.
Now turn the mixer to low speed and add ½ cup of the dry ingredients and then mix them together. Keep adding the dry ingredients in ½ cup interval until all of the dry ingredients are integrated into the dough. Divide the dough in half by placing it on a clean counter. Shape each half into a disc and cover each in plastic wrap by. Let them cool for an hour in refrigerator and then take them out to roll out ¼” thickness by placing it on a wax paper.
Place some flour in a shallow bowl and dip your cookie cutter in this flour. Cut out the cookies from the disk and then you can cut more shapes depending on what you want to make. Place them all on previously prepared baking sheets. Make sure that the cookie is approximately 1-1/2” from the edges of the sheet which will give the cookie enough room to spread when it bakes.
Continue cutting out cookies until you fill the baking sheets with cookies. Cover the cookie sheets in plastic wrap and put them in refrigerator for 15 minutes. This will help to prevent them from spreading when you bake them. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and then when the cookie cut outs got chilled, remove one cookie sheet from the refrigerator and take of the plastic wrap. Bake the cookies for 5 minutes and then rotate the cookie sheet to 90 degrees.
Bake the cookie for 6more minutes and they should be ready by turning brown. Let them cool for 2 minutes and place them on a wire rack to cool down. In the meantime, prepare the frosting by mixing all the ingredients in a stand mixer and then put it in a pastry bag if you are using one. You can use a thin line to outline the cookies so that can easily fill the rest of it with the icing.
You can use black or white for the outline but use green for the inner portion. Fill the cookies with a thin layer of green frosting. Use required amount of food color to get the perfect green that you are looking for. Now you can add decorative lights in different colors by placing edible pearls or you can also use edible markers in different colors to draw the decorations of the cookies.
You can add red sparkles or edible glitters to give them a festive look. To keep them simple, you can add thin lines of white frosting to show the trees with snow. Use your imagination to make the best design and serve your family with these adorable Christmas tree cookies!
